Battlegrounds Mobile India launch: Good news and bad news for the gamers

After a wait of around 9 months, the PUBG fans can play the Indian version, Battlegrounds Mobile India. The pre-registration started on May 18 and according to Krafton, the game will remain exclusive to the only Indian subcontinent. The proposed launch of the Battlegrounds Mobile India announcement has always sparked different kinds of speculations from different gamers. But other sources have told that this might not happen. Krafton will make an official announcement on this matter.

CAIT urges the center to ban Battlegrounds Mobile India over security reasons

The access of Battlegrounds Mobile India was made available for Android users on 17th June and it has already crossed 5 million downloads. This game is developed by the South Korean company Krafton. This game will take more time to be available for everyone, it has already landed up in controversy as many people are demanding a ban on it.

In a related development, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has written a letter to Union IT and Communication Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanding a ban on this much-awaited game as it is “not only a threat to national sovereignty and security of India but also harmful for young generations.” CAIT has also asked Google not to allow Battlegrounds Mobile India developers to use the Google Play store to launch the game.

PUBG Mobile India was also banned by the Indian government in September 2020 as there were data privacy concerns. As Battlegrounds Mobile India would pose a danger for the data and privacy of millions of India’s citizens, it is not available for everyone.

Praveen Khandelwal, the Secretary-General of CAIT tweeted, “After #PUBG was banned last year [and] now they are making backdoor entry by circumventing Indian laws.”

How to download Battlegrounds Mobile India?

As Krafton is all set to release more slots of the beta version, there are APK and OBB download links for the game available. But, you should use these links at your risk as they are not verified and your data might be at risk. The size of the APK and OBB files are 72 MB and 637 MB respectively. The gamers should ensure that their device has enough space before downloading the files and has a good Wi-Fi connection. Once done, follow the steps below:

1: Once the files are download, enable the “Install from Unknown Source” option and then install the APK file.

2: Rename the file to "main.15255.com.pubg.imobile.obb" and paste it into the following directory: Android/OBB/com.pubg.imobile

Battlegrounds Mobile update reportedly fixes data sharing with China servers

The good news is that Battlegrounds Mobile India has received an update that fixes the sharing of user data with servers in China. Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on the Data Protection Bill and BJP Member of Parliament, Meenakshi Lekhi urged the probe to fix the problem. Lekhi’s tweet does not out rightly term Krafton’s new Battlegrounds Mobile India game a threat to India’s security, much like what we have been seeing from other politicians calling for a ban on the game. Unlike others, Lekhi urged an investigation but something is happening on that front, Krafton is trying not to goof up this time. Krafton has issued some fixes to Battlegrounds Mobile India to stop the exchange of data with servers in China.

Now many people have pointed out that the communication with servers in China happened because of the data migration such as Battlegrounds Mobile India and PUBG Mobile India, the data transfer takes place from Proxima Beta Pte. Limited is a Singapore-based company with Tencent Games as its parent. After the fix, the communication with the servers is closed but the server ping to Proxima Beta Pte. Limited is there as it is required for data migration.

Krafton has not been transparent about this incident. The call for a ban on this game is increasing. However, a ban doesn’t seem likely as Krafton might have to face some questions from the government for this. The ban is doubtful as Krafton and the Indian government agreed to the relaunch of PUBG Mobile on a condition. They want the company to be compliant and Krafton will invest $100 million in India, which it announced last year.

So, if you are a PUBG or a Battleground fan, hold your horses as you might not know when the game will be available at your fingertips.
